Adults Who Eat Baby Food (with special guest Mike Carano)

Greg was sick for this episode and afraid to spread germs to the newest member of the Thursday gang plus the people who care for her so he sat this one out but sent a very special recorded message which was only rivaled in beauty by length. Sitting in for Greg was someone who is vaguely similar, recent Monday show guest Mike Carano. I say vaguely similar because like Greg, Mike also wonders if Jenna, #AL and Mormons in general judge him. On this episode we also talked about being “natural” parents, whether Mike is a good judge of character because he realizes he’s a bad judge of character, a couple stories from Daniel and my recent visit with Daniel’s mom, bawling through Frozen and other movies and musicals, the stress but also the liberation of self check out, being shamed by bank and fast food employees, adults who eat or have eaten baby food (GUILTY! BUT ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN), the current ordeal I’m experiencing thanks to spinach, suspecting you’ll be irritated by Flea and the Jackass guys and so much more. We also did a round #SNACKCHAT and a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

The bank talk made me think of a strange experience that we had. When my husband's mom past away, he got a check for half of her life insurance (He has a brother.). When he went to the bank to put it in the account, the bank teller said, “Oh! What's this for? Is this from a car accident?” Bill had to say, “No, my mom just past away and this is half of her life insurance.” Awkward!

I love the poop talk. Another episode where I'm trying to laugh silently in my cubicle while tears roll down my face.

Yes. Or on the train or bus…. I swear I've had to turn it off before just to compose myself for the strangers sitting next to and opposite me.

Bear with me, I'm moody today.

I related to Mike when he spoke about how his life changed when he became an uncle. I had a similar experience when I became an aunt. It's amazing and I love my nephew more than anyone else on earth. I also became super sensitive to any sort of sad story that had to do with a kid anywhere near his age.

BUT, I also feel like Mike was a bit selfish during the show and kind of hogged the floor. I could be biased because I feel protective of Jenna and Al as new parents (I personally try not to talk about certain things around new parents as new emotions and hormones and lack of sleep makes them more sensitive to things than usual and I want to be helpful to them, not hurtful………of course, at the same time, they are grown adults who can take care of themselves and don't need me to protect them).

It also makes me a little crazy that people say they worry Jenna and Al judge them because they are Mormon – when in reality it's actually the other way around….people are judging Jenna and Al as judgmental simply because of their religion (and they are seriously the least judgmental people ever, that is one the the things I love about them). Of course, Jenna and Al always handle those situations with such openness and kindness and grace. They are such awesome role models for anyone who experiences the “oh, you're a (fill in the blank)?” type situation.

Thoughts on parenting: I feel like most people do the best they can and it is really hard to know what works AND what is healthy / at least not damaging at the same time. Let's face it: it is the hardest job in the world. Someone once said something like – “you make sure you don't make the same mistakes your parents did, instead you end up making all sorts of NEW mistakes!” I think that is very true.

I love Greg and I was cracking up over his recording. It was classic Greg. I was waiting for him to start singing, though and I was bummed he didn't!

Dr.Raj of Universe City liked my tweet proposing Fact Chat! I see both of you using comedy for the betterment of society. Nice!

I agree with you about Jenna and Al! They do a wonderful job of being who they are without being judgmental or prickly toward others who don't live the way that they do. I mean, I think the questions toward them are legitimate enough, but Jenna did attend NYU and work for the Daily show. I think she's proven that she can comfortably navigate the two worlds.
