ARIYNBF 118 with Dave Hill

Dave Hillcomedian, musician, writer, snappy dresser—stopped by this episode of Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend to discuss his new book, Tasteful Nudes. He also told us about getting slapped in the face by a few different sets of fake breasts, playing in a band with Moby, waking up in a weird bathroom, being a lazy meat warden (note: not his words) and an array of other things, one of them involving larvae.

ARIYNBF 117 with Garfunkel and Oates LIVE from UCB

This episode is a very special episode (like on Family Ties when Alex got hooked on speed or Facts of Life when the diplomat’s daughter committed suicide, but more fun) because it’s the first one performed and recorded LIVE in front of a crowd at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater in Los Angeles. Someone even wore face paint!

And except for forgetting to have someone take some photos (thanks to the fans who sent some in!) and losing the first two and a half minutes to the sands of time (explained in the episode), things went amazingly well. Seriously. It was super duper fun and I was overjoyed and it was packed and I can’t wait until the next one.

Garfunkel and Oates (Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci) joined the show to talk about birth control, cellulite, Bo Burnham, granola bars that taste like vitamins, spiders, the state of Virginia and an array of other assorted things. They also debuted their new song, “29/31.”

Buy their album, Slippery When Moist!

Dustin joined the show as well and we read an email from his mom. Alison opened the show by reading a list which, if reduced to three key words would be: “anxiety! farts! bran!”

Anxiety! Farts! Bran!

(thanks to @prototypedemo for sending in the photo)

(note: Kate and Gary are just outside the frames of this photo)

There was also some discussion of sex, a round of Just Me Or Everyone with audience participation, an abbreviated Hey, Go Fuck Yourself! and an even more abbreviated Topic Sombrero.

Plus, Dustin outed Alison for her lack of garbage cans in Brooklyn. More about that can be found here.

Here’s Dustin outing me

Alison is writing this in third person and it feels weird but she’s doing it because some portion of it will be used for the iTunes summary and that should say Alison instead of I, Alison thinks.

Also there’s a surprise at the end of the episode which is teased at the beginning of the episode if by “teased” you mean “stated explicitly” and by “surprise” you mean “a song by Alison’s old band, The Angoras.”

Remind Alison to tell you about when she was 6 and a friend of hers promised her a big surprise (“wait here, I have a big surprise!”) and then disappeared while Alison fantasized about all the amazing things that were in store and then the friend came out wearing a party dress. That was the surprise. Big fucking deal! Taffeta!

Alison hates surprises anyway.

So do I.

The AV Club described my podcast as "terrific"

…in a longer thing about Pete Holmes. But still!

You Made It Weird #52: Alison Rosen

On the latest installment of You Made It Weird, Pete Holmes says that when he sits down to record a podcast he’s aiming for an organic, free-flowing conversation rather than a conventional interview or Q&A. That’s just what Holmes gets with Alison Rosen of The Adam Carolla Show and Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend, a terrific new podcast that had Holmes on as its first guest. Holmes and Rosen have a natural, easy rhythm that allows them to explore some darkly fascinating subject matter, particularly Rosen’s creepy, mildly dispiriting introduction to the frequently creepy, mildly dispiriting world of sex. It’s not always clear who’s driving the conversation here, but that’s part of the episode (and the podcast’s) casual charm. [NR]

This was in the AV Club’s PODMASS, Best podcasts for the week of May 24-30. Yay!

(thanks to @captainnatepalm for tweeting me about this!)

ARIYNBF 116 with Dave Dameshek

Dave Dameshek— radio personality, sports writer, podcaster, Jimmy Kimmel writer and all around hilarious guy –stopped by this episode of Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend to discuss Connect 4, pickles, mustard, being fired from his radio job to be replaced by Danny Bonaduce, caring too much what other people think, David Feeney’s wife who doesn’t care what other people think, Fancy Nancy, Amelia Bedelia, pretentious 5-year-olds and an array of other fantastic things. We also did a round of Just Me Or Everyone (click here to see the JMOEs we put on the screen) and a tiny dab of HGFY. Plus iTunes Comment of the Week and more.

ARIYNBF 115 with Joel Stein

Super funny writer Joel Stein stopped by this episode of Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend to talk about his new book, Man Made (A Stupid Quest for Masculinity) for which he let people yell at him while he tried to pee and almost shot a turkey. He also did other, manlier things including fainting and something with Boy Scouts. Then he accused me of having an imaginary boyfriend and misremembering The Brady Bunch. We also talked about massages, black out sex and other stuff which I’m having trouble recalling at this moment but I’m pretty sure was amazing. And of course we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone (click here to see the JMOEs we put up on the screen) and read your iTunes comment of the week.
