Ski Trips, Mean Girls and Special Guest Little Esther

ARIYNBF Ski Trips and Mean Girls

Little Esther joins us while Greg becomes one with the sea this week for an episode in which we determine the worst age and discuss who was a mean girl and who was tormented by mean girls. We also chatted about Daniel and my recent ski trip, the burden of being God’s gift to the slopes, Southern Utah accents, the road trip from hell, tampon strings, super uncomfortable layers, Jeff waking up with a bug up his butt and so much more. Plus we did a round of just me or everyone and talked about this week’s adoptable dog Cameron who’s waiting for you at the Downey Shelter.

Download the episode from iTunes.

You probably need to buy the new ARIYNBF LOGO tshirt and get the Bumbershoot bonus episode!

The reason your bladder releases as soon as you take your tampon out is because a tampon puts pressure on the urethra – like stepping lightly on a hose. Tampon comes out = foot comes off hose. That is how those new bladder controlling vaginal insert things work. Urine is sterile (it’s poo that has bacteria in it, not pee) so feel free to grab the pee string after you pee and then just wash your hands. Also, it’s a good idea to pee sooner than later as it does stress your body to wait too long and can lead to infections that require antibiotics.

Oh look, I have another comment to make. That is shocking 🙂

On the meds for mental illness thing: if a person has a brain chemistry issue that cannot be balanced otherwise, meds for life (and tweaking those meds for life) can certainly be a reality. This is often the case in illnesses like bipolar and schizophrenia. I know some folks with bipolar that have meds and weekly (some twice a week) therapy and I also know some that only do “check in” type therapy on a monthly basis – it depends on how the meds work for people and what other resources they have and need. I’ve heard and read a little bit about therapy being helpful for people who experience schizophrenia as well. It used to be that schizophrenia was treated as more of a “meds plus case management” situation rather than individual therapy, so it is nice to hear there is some traction there.

However, for issues like mild to moderate depression (such as what Daniel may experience), a temporary SSRI med or similar paired with therapy may be the ticket to get the chemistry back on track and then it can be tapered down and off (only do this when collaborating with your licensed Rx writer, though, of course). Or, sometimes even folks with mild to moderate depression need a longer term med solution to go along with other things like psychotherapy, exercise, stress management (i.e. mindfulness, meditation, etc).

As far as SSRIs go, what I have found is similar to what Daniel described – when on them it takes more to bring you to your knees and you recover from stuff quicker and easier. Not perfect by any means, but can be a helping hand.

Do you mean when she had to leave to do a show or before that? If you mean before she had to leave, I guess I don’t remember a drop off.
