Finicky McPrissy and the 600 Questions

Finicky McPrissy

If you’ve ever wished to go to dinner with me, you won’t after hearing this episode. Also, we talked about Jenna’s ice-pack maxi-pads, things Greg overheard at the Farmer’s Market, junkyard kittens, things Greg feels shame and guilt about, my experience on Anna Faris’s podcast, Daniel’s feelings about food, car washes, the new show intro and more. Plus we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and I even took a video during the segment.

“Al ‘proved'” that Chicago was in the midwest. New segment proposal. #AskAl where we ask Al for definitive clarification on things that people disagree on.

    #AskAl – Is Pluto a planet?

In Australia everyone pronounces Megan as Meegan. So I think if you’re from Australia you should get a pass on… oh Daniel just said that regional accents get a pass. Cool.

This was another great episode, of course! Greg was thinking that it was lose, but I actually thought it was tighter than the previous week’s ep. You at least stayed on the JMOE topics without too much diversion this week.:)
I’m jealous of Daniel’s indifference toward food! Since I’m too obsessed with food and love it so much, it’d be hard to live with somebody like that though. I guess it works out for you two that you’re typically trying to avoid all of the unhealthy/yummiest foods.:) It makes me think of Anderson Cooper who says that he’s so indifferent toward food and hates make food decisions so much that he simply eats the same thing everyday. I can’t imagine!
I wish we could know what interview has been mettled with by the person’s manager! Ick!

I wrote down Greg’s perfect chicken recipe and I’m going to try it soon. However, the browning step is a little unclear to me. The browning sounds like it should be done on the stove top but the pan is later put in the oven. So is the browning in a frying pan then later move everything to a baking pan?

My guess is that one is supposed to use one of those stove-top-to-oven compatible pans like one of these: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00008CM6H/ref=twister_B0081V74CW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

    I’m behind on episodes again.

While I do think some names can at times be kind of pretentious and silly, someone’s name is their name and it belongs to them and I think it should be respected.

I have an extremely common (in the USA) name – Jennifer. I go by Jenn. I don’t care how people spell it or say it. A lot of people pronounce it “gin” like the drink. Doesn’t bother me at all. I know who they are talking about 🙂 and I know who I am and am comfortable with myself and it’s all good.

At the same time, I feel TERRIBLE if I pronounce someone’s name wrong especially when I think they probably deal with it a lot or if it is a name that is from a culture that is not my own (or one that my culture has been super shitty to for hundreds of years). I don’t like to assume everyone is hunky-dory with having their name mispronounced. So if I screw it up, I will absolutely and sincerely apologize and strive to be very careful of my pronunciation in the future, regardless if the person says they are bothered or not. I just feel it’s the respectful thing to do.

Ok one more thing: I think Daniel’s thing with food is a part of the depression he experiences. I have very similar food stuff as him and I have heard other people (that are in therapy for depression and/or anxiety) say the same. I would encourage him to bring this up with his therapist and/or Rx provider. I have found that when I am on “the right track” therapy and medication wise these food issues decrease in severity. This is one way I monitor my “SSRI burnout warning signs” (paying attention to if/when a certain SSRI med stops working for me so I have to change brands – under a doctor’s care, of course).
