ARIYNBF 124 with Dave Holmes

Comedian, writer, host and all around awesome guy Dave Holmes, whom you may remember from his former gig as an MTV VJ, stopped by this episode of Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend to chat about pestering people til they give you a job, Jesse Camp, All My Children, reading in the bathroom, Real World and Road Rules, his shows DVD on TV and A Drink with Dave, sexuality, monogamy and an array of other assorted things including punctuation and grammar. We also did a round of Just Me Or Everyone (click here to see the JMOEs we put on the screen) and Topic Sombrero.

I could count on one had the number of ARIYNB guests that are NOT in therapy.   On the other hand, it's fitting since, in many ways, ARIYNB is an hour-long, public therapy session, and we listeners are all just voyeurs with our faces pressed to the glass.

Good show.   I glazed over during the All My Children part – but it's all good.

I've got a nickname for producer Gary. Imagine the intro:

“Lord of the Board producer Gary” Maybe a little production of a godly voice or reverb or something fancy like that

Christina P. mentioned the reality show on a dethsquad podcast. Also Joe Shmoe show was the best. Kristin Wiig!

Loved the episode, love Dave Holmes.
I would not be opposed to an All My Chidren segment on every show… maybe Angie & Jesse & Greg & Jenny as the first topic?  Just a thought.  Thank you in advance!

It's funny, I didn't recognize Dave Holmes' name right away, but I recognized him instantly by his voice.  I don't think of him as having a particularly distinct voice, but I guess it's a very good one.  Good guest, good episode, you guys really did seem like you could talk forever.  You should definitely have him back sometime.
Weird question: any chance you can get Michelle Branch on your podcast?  David Wild may be able to facilitate this..  Anyway, I think she'd be good on the show.  She didn't do a ton of talking on the recent episode of Carolla's podcast that she was on, but she was good a pretty good guest on the Loveline episode referenced during the show, from many years ago ( http://www.lovelinetapes.com/s… )

It is becoming more and more evident each show how into Alison Gary is.  He is definitely hoping in the back of his mind that Alison's relationship fails so he can make his move.  Is it just me or everyone that feels Gary has a crush on Alison?

Real World and Reality TV =/= painfully uninteresting.  The pretense that it is interesting = very gay in males, very fruitfly in Alison.  Stop.

Also, “Muppet-ational” is incredibly unfunny.  What exactly was this guy's talent?

I love it when the pictures you guys are talking about during the podcast show up at the bottom of the page on The Adam Carolla Show and For Crying Out Loud, It would be awesome if you guys started doing that for this podcast.

Awkward…just a few weeks ago Dave Holmes blasted Adam Carolla on twitter.  Now Allison has him as a guest.  Disrespectful.

    Alison,

I hope you read this and stay away from the ACS message boards. There seem to be a lot of angry, unemployed men, with nothing better to do than bash other people, including Adam. Enough with the negativity. You are an awesome addition to Adam's show. I was completely bummed when Teresa left the show and I cringed with each and every news girl Adam tried out. But you were the perfect choice. You are so fast and funny and I love that you keep Adam on his toes. You're doing a great job. Just listened to one of your podcasts and enjoyed it very much. I will be tuning in for more. Keep up the great work.

All right I wasn't going to say anything so as not to be mean, but I read the other comments & I’ve come to the conclusion that I'm not a Dave Holmes fan.  I feel like I remember thinking he should have won that MTV thing, because he was WAY better than Jesse Camp, but honestly that's not saying much, the stapler here at my desk is better than Jesse.  In addition, I felt he went off into obscurity somewhere, and I would see him every once in a while & think, “is that the mtv guy?”  Anyway, I’ve seen his FX show, and it’s kind of annoying, well maybe it’s him combined with that chick he does the show with, but SOME things on it are interesting.  And the picture for this episode really annoys me (the Dave half not the Alison half).
    And I didn’t know it WASN’T “lamb-based”!
