ARIYNBF 122 with Bald Bryan Bishop

Bald Bryan Bishop, Alison’s cohort on The Adam Carolla Show stopped by this episode of Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend to chat about petty grievances that are ultimately motivating, not wanting to be That Guy, the team of That Guys that are in his head, whether he and Alison should strive to be podcast ambassadors, passing Dr. Drew a demo tape of what would become The Film Vault, working at KROQ as a phone screener, whether you can be mad at people for their natural reactions to things, awful radio jingles, Adam Carolla being twenty percent more Adam on air and living with a brain tumor.

Plus a round of Just Me Or Everyone (click here to see the JMOEs we put on the screen), Topic Sombrero, HGFY and MORE!

This show is brought to you by  Amazon (clear your cookies first and what the hell, make a bookmark!) and Endless.

First! Oh, and I love your show Alison.

Not sure what upset me more during this episode of ARIYNBF… the admission that Alison sends text messages when she is driving or that Topic Sombrero is not Bryan's absolute favorite moment of Alison's show. Alison! I hope you read this, or Gary Bear reads this to you… every time you send a text while you are driving your car, a baby duckling dies. This has been proven to be scientific fact. You can ask Dr. Pinkski. As for Bryan and Topic Sombrero… I think he should love it just for the Topic Sombrero song!! The song is soo awesome that I hope someday to make love to the woman I am going to marry to that song. In fact, I hope the Topic Sombrero song will be played at my wedding… if that ever happens.

  3. boinkity July 9, 2012 at 3:38 am #

I also wanted to add that the “Hey Go Fuck Yourself” segment of the show is great, but I think always seems to confuse the guests. After the guest tells the reasons why they want a person to “go fuck themselves” they always seem to mistakenly start to say, “soo, HEY! Go fuuuu…” before being cut off by TrappDog's awesome “Hey HEY HEEEY… gofugyerself” recording. Is there a way to help this part of the show go smoother?

i’m so excited to hear my dream show, the two of you together without the constant drone of “it’s so hard being rich in america” by you know who

great show. lot of fun. Bryan's list was spectacular. Alison and Bryan are always good. Nice to hear them w/out Aceman. Gary solid as usual =-)  JMOE; when crossing the street and timing my walk to let passing cars go by, does one asshole stop. throwing my timing of and making me run. possibly into other cars/in other lanes, I may be waiting for. person my need a stern “go fuck yourself” to boot…

Great Great episode. You and Bryan (and Gary) seem to have a great rapport and definitely play well off of each other in pod form. I definitely echo the sentiment that you need to have your own podcast together or at least you should guest on each other's more frequently.

One alternative to letting someone on a lower rung of the podcast ladder starf*ck you is to starf*ck sideways, meaning Alison should BONE ON DOWN with Lederhosen announcer guy!!! (or would this be incest?)

about the hanging out with other podcasters, I would think that part of it comes from regularly going to other people's live shows (I realize this might be difficult since you guys are on the ACS nightly) :

For example, attending the various shows on nerdmelt hosted by their (nerdist) podcasters or whatever is going on at UCB or even, to a lesser extent the Lovitz club. Im sure Alison and Bryan could “ambassadorize” with the regular peeps that show up to Doug Loves Movies or Movie Interruption, etc.

  24. stnuntrnd July 9, 2012 at 4:30 pm #

Back in October, 2011, Bryan and Alison might have made videos of them performing the services (baby sitting, meal prep, mow lawns, etc.) they auctioned off on eBay; if so, are the videos posted?

Great episode. Alison, you're a doll and a quick, funny lady as well. Brian is likewise funny, honest and seems like a genuinely decent sort of guy. You'd make a great married couple in a '40s flick with snappy dialogue.

It will get better. Gary's getting used to it. It takes practice to know when to pull the trigger! I'll try to account for these moments as I make the rest of the “Hey Hey Hey…” series. Perhaps I should begin with, “Hey Hey Hey… Awwkkkwaaarrd!!!”

  34. Michael Pemulis July 10, 2012 at 10:40 am #

I really enjoyed this episode. Hearing Bryan and Alison share sincere exchanges was refreshing and entertaining. Like podcast siblings getting a chance to talk out of the shadow of their looming podcast parent. Great show.

And in an attempt to be more sincere and positive, and relevant, myself, here's an affirming quote for anybody struggling with body image issues: “Who wants to be a skinny pencil? I'm happy being a magic marker.” –Natalie Green

When I saw that the guest was Bald Bryan, the first thing that came to mind was “Brusca is the best booker in the building”. But to my surprise, this was easily the most pleasant interview so far. What made this work so well was the conversational comfort level between Alison and Brian.
If one really thinks about it, this is much of the appeal of the Carolla show. Unlike most interviews where celebrities come loaded with prepared topics, and hosts stick to format, Adam speaks to guests as if he were hanging out with them socially. Due to Adam’s “regular guy” way, guests tend to let their guard down, which makes this work so well.
In a sense, the various Ace shows are a real life “Entourage” of sorts. We (Joe Public) get to hear celebrites talk in ways we will only hear in this format. Along the same lines, this episode in particular felt like we were literally eavesdropping on Alison and Bryan while they had a couple drinks. Once again, this is pure gold for “civilians”, as it makes us feel like part of the team…as geeky as that may sound.
I do have one suggestion for Alison pertaining to the various stories from the Loveline and TACS era. Simply go back and listen to the old stuff. Although I was always a casual Loveline fan, I didn’t becaome a Giovanni-level superfan until early 2010. Since then I have been gradually plowing my way through both shows, one at a time. Actually hearing the incidents in question is several times more fullfilling than hearing them recalled many years later.

  40. boinkity July 11, 2012 at 5:02 am #

Oh… I wasn't even thinking Gary Bear was at fault for the way guests have been reacting to the HGFY part of the show. Gary is awesome! I was thinking more along the lines of telling the guests before hand to let Gary do the “HGFY” drop so that there isn't that awkward interruption. Also, TrappDog, have you considered doing a “hey HEY HEEEYY… I'm FUCKED!” I'd like to use that as a ringtone for work related calls 😀

  41. The40yroldvirgin July 11, 2012 at 3:18 am #

agreed  I would be happy with a Bald Bryan, Alison, Gary podcast every week!

  42. TrappDog July 11, 2012 at 6:59 am #

Oh no, I didn't mean to imply fault either. It is no small responsibility to be entrusted with the HGFY drop, and Gary bears it well. (or should I say Gare bears?) I think they already do introduce the segment with the drop, don't they? It's just that the after drop gets tricky because you're guessing at when the guest has concluded their statement. But maybe I'm not the one to ask. I support the anything goes approach, followed by the reprimanding of guests when they don't get it right.

This show was greatly enjoyable.  I am a loyal, long-time Ace fan who listens to all of Adams podcasts and many others.  I had not yet started on ARIYNBF.  I tried this episode first because I remembered how much I enjoyed the episode of the main show that you two did alone together due to a hole in Adam's schedule a while back.

You delivered beautifully.  I got a great feel for how Alison handled herself on her own show and went on to listen to many other episodes of ARIYNBF with great delight.

Bryan, you're tops.  The only thing wrong with the Adam Carolla Show is not enough BBB.  I would enjoy twice as many drops.  This episode was a great display of your talent.

You've earned a new listener.  Keep it up and I may even click through your Amazon link instead of Ace on the House's.

    Love,
    Matt

Brian gets on my tits and yet he also scores laser points on the Carolla podcast. And I do believe he has the right idea when it comes to the whole brain cancer thing. I'd like to think I'd take the same approach (and not sure I'd be able to).
Uh, there is no easy way to say this but.. yes. regarding 'something' that may involve an imaginary recreation of Alison … and may I just say, sincerely, I like to think it's been in the 'best possible sense'. And really quite conservative. But yes.. oh yes.. definitely 'Imaginary Alison Rosen.' Sorry 'bout that.
