ARIYNBF 110 with Matt Nathanson

On this episode of Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend, musician Matt Nathanson stopped by to talk about going to the Claremont colleges with Alison, performing on The Bachelor and Dancing with The Stars, exfoliation, what to say when someone coughs, relationships, words that need to be reclaimed, being gluten-free, touring, getting in fights with fans from the stage, Taylor Swift writing Matt’s lyrics on her arm and whether music can truly reflect the entirety of a person. We also answered your twitter questions and played a round of “Just Me Or Everyone?” (click here for a photo of the JMOEs we put up on the screen during the show).

Please enjoy this episode and rate it highly and tell your friends and ask them to subscribe or just go on their computers and subscribe for them. They’ll appreciate it and more importantly, I will appreciate it. Matt Nathanson… really comes across as a cool guy in this interview. I dunno why, but I don't know why I find it hard to believe he sees a therapist. I guess he comes across as a regular guy, and regular guys are too busy maybe?

You don't have to do a fancy dance
You don't have to wear the fancy pants
You only have to give yourself a chance
And you'll see you are the coolest

You don't have to talk a certain way
There's nothing special that you have to say
    Just be yourself everyday
And everyone will know you're the coolest

So proud of Alison and her hairtenna.
I guess that's how it's spelled since a bunch of pictures of Alison came up in Google Image Search.
    Good good.

Good guest, had never heard of him before.  Listened to some of the song at the end of the show- seems to be a rather outstanding lyricist.

Unrelated, is there any way to get some music to play underneath the opening of the show?  Not the intro song, but the part where you talk about whatever is going on.  Maybe the song from the $25k Pyramid, or the elevator music version of The Girl from Ipanema, etc.?  The show in general could use some more editing here and there IMO.  I don't know if this would work, but considering how young the show is (being an entirely different animal from the Ustream show), this is a fine time to experiment with things.

On that note, have you considered doing a video podcast with an audio analogue?

I'd only see this guy on a music video at a bar with no sound and in the video he looked like a total douche nozzle.  But I must say that he was hilarious.  Great Ep.  And Alison you're are greatly superior to Teresa, and I'm sure you won't acknowledge it on here, but its true!

Catholic Jewish descent. Only Americans are stupid enough to consider a belief system a race.

When Matt made a reference to his beard on the podcast, I was terrified that he meant the Douche Shadow.  I can't tell you how relieved I was when I remembered the sombrero pic.

Good guest, you say?  And real beard?  If there's a way to complain about that, I'd love to know. ” rel=”nofollow”>

And there's nothing like a little embarassment to drive the point home, firmly.

Alison's one of my favorite parts of Adam's show, so it's no surprise that Aryan Boyfriend is one of my favorite new podcasts. However, with the exception of the opening theme (which is admittedly very catchy, since it gets stuck in my head all the time), the music on the show is TERRIBLE. I know that some of the segment jingles are supposed to be dumb (e.g. Just Me or Everyone), but there's no excuse for that piece of shit “blues” song at the end. It sounds like someone played the demo track on a 1986 Casio keyboard and sang over the top of it. Would you consider using some user-submitted material in its place?

Nathanson makes great pod but, honestly, his thoughts on male nether grooming are very 1970's.  Not talking about sculpting out something that looking like a bald little baby hamster; just trimming the hedges a bit.   Growth acceleration is just a myth.  You're not sprouting more follicles, for crissakes.   And, sure, it's work.  You're moving and stretching things that don't do well moved and stretched.  But you're telling your partner, “I want you bad enough to put a sharp blade on and around my junk for you.”   It might not be love, but it's something.

Hi Steve. I'd like to go further into this discussion about stupidity. Matt is having a casual, hip and humourous conversation on a comedic podcast. Not submitting legal papers. So given this and a sort of ironic tone of voice I think 'descended from' was not an attempt at a claim Catholics are a 'race of people.
Steve, having said that, Matt doesn't actually say race does he? I can say I am 'descended from farmers'. Since I am. Which didn't tell you “Steve, by farmers I implied a claim to a race of peoples”.
But let's suppose Matt was seriously (and stupidly) making a claim Catholics and Jews are races of people. Races? Well we would have to get the definition right. For most of our history 'race' is just like 'races' (they run together with and for themselves). Societies. The Greeks might be a 'race' and the Syrians another 'race' of people. You might be thinking of Darwin and his buddies changing that to a modern version of 'race' (Negroids, Caucazoids, Mongoloids).
But now we still can ask you about this 'stupid idea' a belief system is also a 'race'. Since you are smart you might know something can be 'two things' (also, and, in addition, beside it,).
Many people could be part of a Jewish 'race' (a society, culture or people to themselves, also sharing common DNA and family, genetic, historical heritage) AND ALSO they have a belief system or 'religion' of their own too. For example, many Jews consider Jews a 'race' of people (genetically and historically) AND also that has its own religion or 'belief system' at the same time part and parcel.
In other words, on at least 3 different levels (from factual, conceptual, social,) you just wrote maybe the stupid of all stupid comments.
